I don't understand
Why so many use the (5) shot group method for testing. Is there any thing that proves that this is better than 3 or maybe 4 shots.Any shot could be off for any number of reasons. If you get 3 shots...

The more shots in a group, the more meaningful the average. The five shot group became popular when most bolt guns held 5 shots. Even going back to muzzle loader days, more than a few shots were used...

For accuracy testing I generally shoot 10 shot groups myself. Of course, I also measure and compute the mean radius which is more meaningful than the extreme spread of the group.

How do I Change this back to regular print? If I get 3 shots inside a one inch circle I'm through with that combination. If the rifle was not already zeroed then I would do so.Read More

Interesting comment. I usually work up a load that puts it where I want it, with the muzzle energy I want, and leave it alone. While others like "to play" with different load combinations, I myself...

I don't know what you've been reading on this thread, but no one has said " the more shots the smaller the group"!
View ArticleRe: I don't understand
Wow this is an old thread. I'll just add that the more shots, the larger the group, is the more likely outcome.

I'd say a year old plus. I understand about more shots. I developed a good size hole with my 22 mag. On the other hand if one to know the results from a cold barrel with only 2 or 3 shots that would...

Three shots is not a group.....it is a coincidence. http://www.rifleman.org.uk/Fuller_group_diagnosis.htm

I never much saw the purpose or charm, except for bragging rights, in achieving “tight” groups with firearms. If one is simply into custom loading ammunition and firing it in a particular weapon then...
